What Is Anger?

Anger can be a big feeling.

It can make you feel like screaming and squealing.

You can get angry when life is unfair and rough.

Sometimes, it makes you want to act real tough,

But even if you are feeling mad,

You must never make others feel unsafe or sad.

Feeling angry is okay,

You just need to show it in a healthy way.

What Does it Feel Like?

Anger can feel red and hot.

You might be clenching your fists a lot.

Anger can make faster breathing,

It can feel like fire you are seething.

You might feel like you want to scream and yell,

You need to find a safe person to tell.

Anger can also make us want to cry,

Here are some calming things you can try.

What Can You Do to Feel Better?

When you are angry and mad,

There are some things you can do to help you feel glad.

The first to do it is to name it and feel it,

Ignoring your feelings does not really help one bit.

The next thing is really important, so listen well,

You should not hurt others or at them yell.

It is okay to be mad but not to be mean,

No matter your age whether a kid, adult, or teen.

But how can you feel better from these feelings,

So you do not feel like you are going to burst through the ceiling?

Think of something you like to do,

This could be unique, just like you.

It could be playing a game or having some fun,

Or it could be cuddling or sitting in the shining sun.

Maybe you like to do some art,

It could be jumping and bumping or a movie you start.

There is breathing really deep and slow,

Feeling or listening to the wind blow.

There are so many things you can do,

Make a list of what works for you!

Always remember if you need it, you can talk to a trusted adult, too!

Activities to try:

  1. Draw, write, or think of things that make you angry. Think of things you can do to feel better or calm down.
  2. Think of what it is making you angry or upset and draw it out! It could be scribbles, shapes, or pictures. Imagine your anger leaving your body and getting out on the page.
  3. Take a big, deep breath in. 1, 2, 3. Breathe out. 1, 2, 3.
  4. Listen to music. You can dance and sing around too.
  5. Take a break.
  6. Get active!
  7. Talk to a loved one
  8. Play with a fidget toy
  9. Stretch
  10. Jump up and down
  11. Take a break
  12. Yell into a pillow
